GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE PROJECT
Introduction
A Poly House is a framed structure made of G I Pipe /MS angle/Wood /Bamboo and covered with a transparent/trance lucent material fixed to frame with grippers. Besides irrigation, it has control/monitoring equipment, which is considered necessary for controlling environmental factors such as temperature, light, relative humidity etc. and is necessary for maximizing plant growth and productivity. Thus, the Poly House is an enclosed area, in which crops are grown under partially or fully controlled conditions. The cladding material is of net and acts like a selective radiation filter that allows solar radiation to pass through it but traps the thermal radiation emitted by the inside objects to create Poly House effect.
The Poly House protects the plants from adverse climatic conditions and provides an appropriate amount of light, temperature, humidity, carbon dioxide etc. to achieve optimum yield with excellent quality. The reason for building a Poly House is to get faster growth by raising humidity and controlling temperatures. Labor, energy and capital are the major three cost factors in a typical modern Poly House production system. Poly House technology is highly relevant under Indian conditions due to variant agro – climatic conditions of the country.
It is known fact that traditional farming is not affordable due to various reasons. The basic problem is no control over climatic condition & natural hazards. As a result the quality of Agriculture produce & the yield is much inferior as well as the market realization is very low. Hence Agriculture has been treated as risky business.
Therefore the latest technologies are being adapted by farmers to get optimum yield and quality. The necessity of Poly House technology is mainly because of these factors. The advance techniques of cultivation are to be used for commercial & profitable farming. In recent years there has been tremendous potential for flower as well as vegetable consumption. The Cucumber can also be grown in covered cultivation with the help of Poly House technology, which has very good market & prices. This technology would enhance the quality as well as quantity of produce, reduces the risk of cultivation & minimizes the production cost. As a result Poly House cultivation has become a profitable
and commercial activity.
Most of the required parameters are controlled in the Poly Houses like temperature, humidity, level of carbon dioxide, sunlight etc., which helps plants to grow more, to give maximum yield & best quality by providing good resistance against pest & diseases.
The Gerbera, Carnation, Roses, Cucumber and many more flowers and vegetables are grown easily & successfully in the Poly Houses. The cultivation practices are now standardized, easily available & have shown provided results.

Salient features of the projects
The use of high yielding and input responsive cultivars, sound research and development infrastructure and large financial allocation where the prime factors behind the achievement of the Poly Revolution in India In recent years, efforts have been along similar lines to bring about a revolution in the production of horticultural crops. As a result, horticulture hasemerged as one of the major agricultural activities in India.
There has been a substantial increase both in area and production of these crops despite the fact that the emphasis was primarily on food grain crops in the first four decades after independence. Horticulture has also moved out of its rural confines into urban areas and fromtraditional agriculture to corporate enterprise. The investment made in horticulture in recent years has increased significantly.
The recent advanced method of drip or sprinkler irrigation is the most efficient method of irrigating the crops. Water is applied to the crop area near the root zone on a daily basis and as there is no water/moisture stress, the crop growth is not affected at all. Water is also controlled and the required quantity of water is given to each plant based on the evapotranspiration requirement. This method has an irrigation efficiency of up to 92 to 95 per cent.

The choice of drops to be raised in a Poly House depends on the size of the structure and economics ofcrop production.

Drip Irrigation is one of the most efficient and economical methods of irrigation for various crops. Irrigation is one of the limiting factor in crop production and hence, while adopting any method of irrigation there are certain criteria to be observed in relation with agronomical practices of drip irrigation. In drip irrigation one has to consider soil-water-crop relationship.

1. Introduction
Cucumber growing in India is of recent interest due to high demand for fast food dishes in hotels and modern restaurants. Floriculture industry offers many socio-economic benefits in terms of employment generation, higher income and foreign exchange earnings. To capture International market and increase the quality production in manifold, Controlled Atmosphere Technology (Poly House and Poly House) for growing Cucumber is the basic need under Indian conditions. Saudi Arabia, Japan, Netherlands, Singapore, USA and South Korea are leading importers of these produces.
Thus the total production will be 240.00 MTA Cucumbers per Crop, at the total project cost of Rs. 179.00 Lac.
2. Location & Suitability of site
a) Soil
Cucumber grow best in deep, well grains, medium-textured soil, for example, loans, but can be grown in a wide range of soil types. Soil should be least 30 cm deep; the main requirement being good drainage. Red soil maintains the EC(less than 1.0 mlmhoj/cm) and drainage capacity of the soil. The soil ph should be maintained from 6.0 to 7.0. Soil analysis should be carried out frequently and if pH found lower than the required, use finely powdered slacked lime stone and if it is more that seven soil acidification with Gypsum is beneficial.The borrower has proposed to procure the soil medium (red soil, yellow soil, FYM) to provide the above mentioned soil conditions to plants, which is recommended and the estimated costs for these items are also reasonable.
b) Climate
Cucumber crop can be taken under tropical and sub topical climate with adequate light and a temperature range of 22 C to 36 C, Humidity should be maintained from 70-80%. Low humidity (below60%) with low temperature leads to Mite infestation and cease the bud initiation. Cucumbers are particularly sensitive to cols and growth in inhibited below 10 C. Pollination is poor in very hot (above 36C) or very cold (below 15C) weather. Prolonged wet weather causes severe disease pressures. Rain and high humidity can increase development and spread of disease, particularly bacterial spot/ Low Humidity favors mites and powdery mildew. As cultivation will be undertaken in Poly House conditions, the required climate conditions can be maintained except the natural calamities beyond the reach of human being.
C) Irrigation Management
Cucumbers are grown successfully using trickle irrigation under controlled atmosphere conditions. One Bore well with Elect. Motor already existed in said Survey. No.1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19,20,21,22,23,24,25, of the promoters
with continues flow of water for irrigation of crop as per discussion made with applicant at the time of field visit, so please ensure that at the time of sanction and disburse. Applicant has proposed to install drip irrigation unit and water storage tank. The estimated costs for drip irrigation, which are shown in Annexure – A, are reasonable and acceptable and cost of the water tank likely to be the present market rate. The EC of water must be less 1.5 /cm for Cucumber cultivation. If it exceeds the upper limit, then reverse Osmosis System must be installed to control the EC & TDS of water for survival of plants.
D) The unit is already supported with internal roads; drainage system and fencing. In this way, the location and site of project are suitable for cultivation of said crop verities provided to follow-up the above mentioned technical parameters.
3. CULTIVATION PRACTICES
Cultivation of Cucumbers involve following cultivation practices:
A) Plantation of seedlings:
Seedlings of three weeks age are planted in protected structure in the raised beds with 30-40 cm. distances in between plants. Cucumbers can be taken with a spacing 30-40 cm x 45-60 cm between the plants & rows respectively. Planting can be done in any month of the year under controlled atmospheric conditions.
B) Gap Filling
The plants, which do not survive, should be replaced with new plants to maintain the proper plant population so that production would not affect adversely. For this, it is proposed to purchase extra plants.
C) Plant protection Measures
Pests and disease in Cucumber: The principal pests of Cucumber are: 1. Board mite, 2. Fruit fly, 3.Spiral whitefly, 4. Thrips and 5. Nematode
The principle disease is: 1. Root rot 2.Bacterial Leaf spot 3.Powdery mildew 4. Leaf curl
Control: The preventive spray of following chemicals with a volume of 6 liters/spray at an averageinterval of once in week are suggested.
1. Dithane M-45 0.6 gm/litter (for powdery mildew)
2. Dicofol 2.75 ml/litter (for mite control)
3. Bavistin Gm/litter (Root rot)
4. Copper ox chloride (Bacterial leaf spot)
5. Diemethoate 2 ml/litter (Thrips and leaf rollers)
6. Imidacloprid(Aohids)
D) Harvesting
The stage of maturity at which Cucumbers are picked depends on the purpose for which they are grown. For market, the large sweet Cucumbers are usually picked at the Poly mature fruit stage. When harvesting Cucumbers, care should be taken not to injure the plants, as stems are brittle and will snap off very easily. A picking knife may help in removing fruit safely. Cucumbers usually begin flowering 1 month after planting and will take up to around 90 days from planting to first harvest which then continue until cold weather reduces yields or frost stops growth. An average yield is around 5 kg per plant.
E) Grading
After harvesting pre-cooling should be done to remove the excess heat followed by grading according to shape size, diameter and weight to fetch the better prices
F) Packaging
Cucumber can be packaged in simple cardboard cartons but to reach at distant market places CFB material is recommended, Cushion material should also be used in side the cartons to overcome the bruising and other losses.
G) Pre-Cooling
After packaging, flowers and Cucumbers should be pre cooled as soon as possible. Pre cooling reduces the heat produced by respiration, which prevents moisture from condensing on flowers, and decreases the amount of ethylene inside the package. So such it is very important for longevity of produce. Forcing cold air through boxes, which have cents at ends, best, does pre cooling.
H) Storage
After pre cooling, produce must be kept under continues refrigeration during distribution for maximum benefit. Pre cooling has little or no value if low temperatures are not maintained during subsequent periods.
4. UTILITY BUILDINGS
The unit is proposed to construct one grading cum Packing Room and Labour Quarter, It which are advisable.
5. TECHNICAL KNOW HOW
The applicant has adequate knowledge of cultivation of Cucumbers as well as other agricultural crops. Applicant is experiencing of growing of Vegetable crop in open field hence they are aware about allthe package of practices of the crop. Unit is having tie-up with reputed Company. Which will provide the support up to establishment?
6. BACKWARD LINKAGES
A. Raw Material (Planting Material)
The unit may be purchased the planting material for Cucumber seedling from Farming Solutions India. The cost of planting material is likely to be market price Rs. 15-35 per plant the price calculating the project cost (Annexure A)
B. Utilities
The total water requirement is estimated at 3600 liters per day in rainy & winter season whereas 10000 liters per day in summer days to meet the requirement of 10000 M2 area. The proposed site have good arrangement for continues water supply and promoters will construct the water tank for storage of water, it will helpful in irrigation purpose.
C. Electricity
The applicant has proposed to take power connection from Rajasthan Vij. Co-Ltd, which will supply theelectricity for 24 hours
D. Poly House and Other Plants and Machinery
The unit proposes to install the Poly House (in 10000 M2 area) is a reputed company. Drip Irrigation system and other plant & Machinery required by the unit are proposed to be acquired from the reputed irrigation Company.
E. Manpower
The unit proposed to recruit the manpower from local area where availability inin abundance
F. Transport
The transportation vehicles are easily available in local area to reach the product from site to market.
7. FORWARD LINCKAGES
Marketing
Local market at BIKANER is available for marketing the produce, besides it, the promoter will plan to make Tie-up arrangement with big malls and restaurant in Ahmedabad and also with exporter who will purchase the produce. It is a first unit in this area, at present in Ahmedabad Cucumber is coming from the Maharashtra and other big cities for malls, restaurants and for retails sale. Over and above BIKANER, Udaipur, Ahmedabad, Baroda, Surat, Bombay etc. have good demand for the Cucumber.
8. SUBSIDY
National Horticulture Board subsidy of 50% will be mate after completion of the project for whichapplicant has already apply in National Horticulture Board. Approval will issued by the N.H.B.
