Call Out…
Ms S Ven, small farmer, Sikkim
“I have 2 acres land. One cow. Ginger, black cardamom, maize, beans, vegetables. Government says whole Sikkim is organic. We already farm like this. Prices are good. But people say organic gives big premium. I don’t see it.”
Reality Translation Layer.
Ms Ven, for you organic is not a shift. It is already your reality.
No chemicals, mixed crops, animal manure, local practices. Training helped you understand words, not methods. Ginger and cardamom prices went up because of demand, not because of organic tag. Your buyer did not change. Your farming did not change. Only the label changed.
Am I alone or someone is holding my hand!
You are not alone in paperwork. Government extension worker does records, phone entry, data upload. That support matters. But on marketing, you are alone. Buyer decides price. He may sell as organic or normal. You are not part of that decision.
Is it really worthwhile or just cosmetics?
For you, organic is worthwhile for soil, food, and peace of mind. Financially, it is neutral. Premium is not guaranteed unless you control buyer or market. Organic helped system, not income directly.
