Don’t Stop Watching People

Kanta-ben runs a small farsan shop in Anand, Gujarat. No computer. No billing software. No data.

Every evening, she sits on a stool near the counter—not to sell, just to watch.

She notices:

• which item people hesitate before choosing

• which packets are returned to the shelf

• who asks price twice

• who smells before buying

One day, her son suggested installing a POS system.

“Data milega, Ma.”

She smiled and said,

“Mera data toh saamne chal raha hai.”

Later that week, she reduced the quantity of one slow-moving item and increased another—without changing price. Sales improved.

Lesson (simple, usable):

Technology helps you count.

Observation helps you understand.

👉 Try this yourself:

Spend 15 minutes a day only watching customers.

No selling. No phone. Just notice.

How this decodes the “big wisdom”

Algorithms show patterns.

Humans show reasons.

You can scale decisions with tools.

But relevance comes from being present.

My clear opinion

Small businesses already have the biggest advantage—

they are close to people.

If you stop watching and listening,

no technology can save you.
