On-Site Setup Guidelines

🔖 Section Structure:

1. Infrastructure Setup (Floor, Shade, Power, Water)

2. Safety & Risk Measures

3. Storage, Access, Drainage & Disposal

4. Cleanliness & Surveillance

5. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Subsection: Staff Accommodation & Living (Making Stay Enjoyable)

6. If Not Done Properly… The Hidden Costs

________________________________________

🧱 6.1 Basic Infrastructure – Setting the Ground Right

✅ A. Platform / Floor

• Machine को रखने के लिए level, hard-surfaced ground जरूरी है

• Pukka flooring (concrete/tile preferred), at least 15 ft x 25 ft

• Avoid slopes, loose soil, or plastic sheets

• Rubber mat or wood base under machine wheels if floor is uneven

📍 Case: Gujarat के एक farm site पे मशीन गीली मिट्टी पर रखी गई थी – next morning हल्की बारिश में धँस गई, operations 2 दिन late!

🌤️ B. Shade / Roofing

• Sun, rain और dust से बचाने के लिए shade जरूरी है

• At least 10 ft high tin or cloth roofing

• Side tarpaulins in case of wind or dust

• Prefer existing sheds, else partner to arrange bamboo-pole + tarpaulin

📦 Impact: No shade = pulp heating + staff exhaustion + fruit spoilage

________________________________________

⚡ C. Electricity

• Machine needs 5–7 kW steady supply

• 3-phase preferred; else DG backup of 10 kVA

• Avoid loose hanging wires

• Mandatory: Earthing, MCB, emergency cut-off

🔌 Tip: Plug boards for water pumps, mobile charging, light bulb

________________________________________

🚰 D. Water Supply

• Minimum 150–200 litres/day for:

o Machine wash

o Cleaning floor/tools

o Drinking

• Should be near machine (avoid buckets and carry)

• Clean + potable (no borewell with bad smell)

________________________________________

🛑 6.2 Safety & Risk Management

🧯 A. Fire Safety

• 1 fire extinguisher + 1 sand bucket + water drum

• No plastic waste burning on site

• Store diesel in separate covered zone

⚡ B. Electrocution Risk

• Only trained staff touch control panel

• Keep hands dry, shoes mandatory

• No power tools for opening machine when live

________________________________________

🧃 6.3 Storage, Drainage, Road Access, Waste

🧊 A. Pulp Storage

• Drum stacking area must be:

o Clean

o Covered

o Not near machine heat

• Floor marking for batches

• Avoid stacking >3 high without crates/pallets

________________________________________

🛣️ B. Road Access

• Fruit supply vehicles (tempo, tractor) must easily reach site

• Minimum 8–10 ft wide entry

• Avoid muddy / waterlogged approach roads

________________________________________

🚿 C. Drainage & Waste Disposal

• Grey water and pulp residue must be channelled

• Dig waste pit or tie-up with local municipal pickup

• No water stagnation near machine

• Composting option for seeds/peels (good for CSR use!)

________________________________________

🧼 6.4 Cleanliness & Surveillance

🧹 A. Daily Cleaning SOP

• Floor cleaning 2x daily (start + shutdown)

• Machine wipe-down with cloth + soap water

• Use broom + water + phenyl in low quantity

📷 HO Audit Requirement:

• Daily photos of cleaning (floor + machine base)

________________________________________

🎥 B. CCTV / Monitoring

• 1 camera near fruit entry gate

• 1 camera near pulp packing

• Recording loop for 7 days

• Helps in quality control, theft prevention, and incident tracking

________________________________________

🍽️ 6.5 Subsection: Staff Stay Must Feel Like Home

________________________________________

🛏️ A. Residence / Sleep

• Clean room or tent with bedding, mosquito net

• 1 pillow, 1 bed-sheet per person

• Location: walking distance from site

• Basic lighting, plug for charging

• Shared washroom nearby – with latch, clean water

📍 Tip: Partner से local guest house या school building negotiate करें

________________________________________

🍛 B. Food & Cooking

• Full meal x 2 (lunch + dinner), chai x 2, breakfast

• Cooking by local woman/contract cook = better taste

• Use gas stove / solar cooker if possible

• Plates, glasses must be separate for site

• Menu must rotate (daal–chawal–sabzi–roti) – avoid repeat

🎯 Mood Boost: Onion-lemon salad & pickle = instant cheer booster

________________________________________

🧼 C. Hygiene & Self-Care

• Handwashing station with soap

• Weekly towel wash + undergarment drying area

• Clean drinking water cans (with tumbler, not bottle sip)

• Daily garbage disposal

________________________________________

🎶 D. Entertainment & Mental Relief

• Bluetooth speaker with FM / bhajan / local music

• Carrom board, cards, ludo

• 1–2 evenings with “fruity” cold drink and bhujia 😄

• Light wall painting (किसी ने चूल्हे पे आम पका रहा हो type)

📍 Case: Gujarat site where a local singer in the team sang at night → staff worked longer next day without complaint!

“Good setup = Smooth pulping. Bad setup = Full stop.”

SNL doesn’t just install machines — we install experience. 💫
