During 1607 First colonial settlement in US in Jamestown the three buildings that got made were residence, church and salt works. Dutch settled around Hudson River now called New York again due to salt availability. Britishers built massive salt works in Boston. Spanish settled in Florida also in search of salt monopoly. The development of railroads in the US in 1825 was also driven by need for salt trade.
